We’ve all been there. A weekend of mimosas, BBQs, a slice (or two) of cake at so-and-so’s birthday… then a total give-up-and-eat-the-rest-of-the-junk-food-in-your-kitchen because, “I’ll start fresh on Monday.” Well, HAPPY MONDAY! Here are FIVE quick and easy tips for getting through the Monday Blues and getting rid of that bloated belly that you most definitely have right now.
1. LEMON WATER.
First things first, I start every day with 10 oz of hot lemon water. I buy organic lemons (no pesticides in my water, please), cut two slices then squeeze a little extra lemon juice for flavor.
WHY? Lemon juice increases the body’s metabolic rate, helps maintain pH balance in your body, and is a rich source of vitamin C, which supports your immune system and acts as a detoxifying agent and aides in digestion.
2. MORE WATER.
Drink so much water that you’re annoyed at how much you have to go to the bathroom today. On an average day, you should be drinking half of your oz in water to stay hydrated. So, if you weigh 150 lbs., you should be drinking a MINIMUM of 75 oz of water. But today is not an average day. Divide your body weight by 1.5 and really make the effort to reach that magic number of ounces.
TIP: If you’re getting sick of drinking plain water, try sparkling water! My absolute favorites are La Croix Coconut or Berry flavors and Dasani Strawberry Guava. YUM.
3. SUPERFOODS.
I drink a superfoods shake every single morning. That’s my routine on an average day and it’s absolutely a MUST HAVE after a weekend of eating poorly. Your body needs nutrients to work efficiently. If you’ve been eating poorly all weekend, then you’re starting out severely deficient in nutrients, so this is a quick way to begin replenishing exactly what your body needs.
WHY? My superfoods shake includes prebiotics and probiotics which support gut health. It also has digestive enzymes, which help you break down and process foods that may be more challenging for your body. Every person is different and has unique food sensitivities. Digestive enzymes help to speed up the digestion of macronutrients (aka All of that food you just ate). Click HERE to order Shakeology. My current favorite flavor is Vegan Chocolate. Just add one scoop into a shaker cup with 10-12 oz water and you’re good to go!
4. SWEAT.
Your body will naturally detoxify, but this just speeds up the process a bit. Another benefit? Exercise increases serotonin (the “happy hormone”), so you’ll stop feeling guilty and start feeling productive! My go-to work out for getting back on track is a quick 20-minute HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout. If that’s not your thing, even a little yoga or a walk around the block can get your blood pumping and make you feel like a new woman!
5. DETOXY.
I know I mentioned this product in my Supplements Guide, but I couldn’t finish this list without mentioning it again because it’s just THAT good. A weekend of eating food that aren’t the best choices can leave your digestion completely out of whack.
WHY? This magnesium oxide supplement works to cleanse your digestive system by transporting oxygen through your digestive tract, which helps to gently transport toxins and waste out of your system.
Click HERE to order Detoxy+ by Kimberly Snyder. If you don’t take this supplement regularly, just take one before bed. If you take one every day, then take two. You’re welcome. Slipping up and binge eating can be frustrating and leave you feeling defeated, but don’t beat yourself up! This health journey is a lifetime journey and one day or one weekend isn’t going to be the end of the world.
